AMD Ryzen rises on March 2!

AMD Ryzen processors release March 2, 2017

It has been a long time coming. Intel appears to be making double take looks as AMD is set to release its newest processor. All the makings of a renewed processor war is at hand. I have been reading and watching videos. It indeed looks like a chip that is worth taking a look at even if you are an Intel fan. Today AMD finally announced a release date for the Ryzen processor. March 2, one week from tomorrow.

Where does Ryzen sit in performance? My last writing I linked a video that was a demonstration of the chip by AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su. Without fully recapping the video (which you should just go view the previous writing and watch the video) basically the low end Ryzen chip appears to have been made to match Intel’s top i7 chip. In other words the higher level Ryzen chips out perform the Intel i7’s. The demonstration given by Dr. Lisa Su seemed to suggest the low end Ryzen nailed the benchmark.

I would like to be able to link to some pre-orders from this blog, but I am unable to at the moment. (I have to make money off you reading this after all.) However, Microcenter is offering pre-orders online for store pickup on March 2. If you have a store near you have a visit.

They apparent release day offering is three Ryzen processors. A low end, a medium, and a high end.

The low end features 8 cores at 3.7GHz. This is the AMD Ryzen 7 1700.

The Medium processor features 8 Cores at 3.8GHz. The AMD Ryzen 7 1700X.

The high end offering features 8 cores at 4.0GHz. The AMD Ryzen 7 1800.

Yes AMD currently offers processors at a higher processing speed, but think can still run more slowly due to older tech behind that processing speed. The Ryzen chips support DDR4 memory. The current offerings all feature a 20MB cache.

I have been excited about the AMD Ryzen since it was first called Zen. I plan to get my hands on one and to do a Blender benchmark test on it. In the meantime I will begin to make some builds which I hope to begin featuring next week. I run on Amazon time for my builds with new released parts. See you all next time.
